Name: Sam

Sex: dog

Age: about 16 months

Information: This beautiful collie cross is Sam, who is looking for a new home, preferably where there is already another dog, and where there is someone who is at home for most of the time and will give Sam plenty of exercise. This is what Sam's owner says about him: Sam was apparently owned by a couple in their 80's who couldn't cope and shut him in an outhouse. When he arrived he was full of flees and worms. Obviously both now sorted. He would twirl around for hours and dash around the house at the slightest sound. No idea of walks, toys, other dogs etc etc. I have had a behaviorist in and she has done an 11 page report on Sam and is happy to discuss him with possible new owners. He has moved forward a long way, but I know I don't have the time or lifestyle to devote the time to Sam that he now needs with regard to training and moving things forward. He is a very clever little chap and has a lovely nature. He is lovely with other dogs and adults, but seems quite scared of children, although as yet he hasn't met very many. He is clean in the house and has not damaged anything. I now have him walking off the lead and he is as good as gold at keeping an eye on where I am and coming back. I have done lots of hiding games with him etc etc. He will now chew a rawhide shoe and play with a few of his toys, although with a ball etc outside he soon looses interest. He is still quite nervous around lots of noise etc, but this is improving day by day. He is great in the car and in fact I have left him in there for a couple of hours or so while I work and he seems quite happy. He does pull on the lead, but he would be very easy to train with someone who has the time to devote to him as he so wants to please. His darting and twirling is becoming less day, by day. I can now have the radio and TV on and he will cope with most things in the house, just when he gets over excited he reverts back to the old ways etc. I feel Sam would be very happy in a home with maybe another dog, he loves to play with dogs, particularly seems to like spaniels and runs and plays with them! Somewhere where people love to walk or ride, have a large garden for him to run in and perhaps would be interested in agility or something to really tax his mind - he is very bright. I am a single lady, living at the moment in a small house with a small garden, I am a Pilates teacher and so am out and about quite a lot. I walk Sam at least twice a day, but in reality I don't have the time to spend training him and moving him forward etc. I have to be away quite a bit etc etc. and I have found that over the last 5 weeks I have just about managed to hold my work together and that is it. I would just like to add that when I decided to take Sam from the rescue, none of the above was made clear to me. in fact I was very clear with them about my present situation and the lack of time etc to deal with a difficult rescue and of course they told me that he had no issues etc etc. Therefore I would not be happy to take him back there as I don't consider they would have his best interests at heart when rehoming him. I have, of course, become very attached to him over the last few weeks, he really is a very special chap, but I also know, after discussing with the behaviorist too, that I am not able to offer Sam the best home for him and that is what I want for him. He has had a horrible time up to now and I know he will be a fantastic little dog in the right hands.
